"A tout a l'heure" loosely translates from French as "see you later," which could equally insinuate the end of an interaction as it could the planning of a new one. Fitting, then, that Bibio stumbled upon it for this new track from his upcoming LP, Silver Wilkinson. His music has often tried to simultaneously remain nostalgic and forward thinking, much like that of his Warp idols Boards of Canada. The ratios were skewed towards either end on his sublime 2009 LP Ambivalence Avenue and 2011's glossier Mind Bokeh. Here, there's an even keel: you get the lovely acoustic arpeggios, chock-a-block percussion and Stephen Wilkinson's calm, drowsy vocals that defined Ambivalence while subtly integrating Bokeh's extroverted production. After years of being defined by BoC comparisons, "A tout a l'heure" is proof that Bibio's sound is sui generis and he's capable of inspiring a few proteges of his own.
