"There's a sound coming out of Chicago's electronic music scene that maybe you've heard about by now... The-Drum and Supreme Cuts have both recently gotten recognition for squeezing Trap and R&B through their filters and injecting them into basements and lofts around town, and you can think of SICH MANG as these groups' weirdo cousin. Like a feverish psychotropic experience, ERIC LEE GALE and RAND SEVILLA create densely layered brain-bending dance tracks that stutter hypnotically while undulating weightily underneath. Gale and Sevilla are by no means new to the Chicago scene (Gale has supplied electronics and percussion in GOLDEN BIRTHDAY and the now LA-located Sevilla has worked with numerous bands, most recently fronting STREES APE) and they started SICH sometime in 2011. Their tracks clearly draw heavily from Chicago juke and footwork, but their sound owes just as much to early gabber and `90s ambient dance like 808 State and LFO as they do to Traxman and DJ Nate. Their music is manic and high-energy, but to suggest that they are only a party group would be selling them way short. Their music might result in piles of sweaty art kids at shows, but their recordings are just as at home in a more active listening environment and the thoughtfulness of their compositional choices should not be overlooked. They are one-half in-the-club-ass-shaker, one-half bedroom-headphones-weird-dream-maker."
