P'raps best known as the keyboardist for La Roux, Fort Romeau presents himself as purveyor of deep, raw yet glamorous House music with his 100% Silk debut. 'Kingdoms' is well informed by late '80s and early '90s Chi-House, as heard from a knowing 2012 stance; there's basslines and misty mixing trickery that's belies its modern production. But the vibe is faithfully vintage. It's late night music for misty dancefloors, from the swooning sensuality of 'Jack Rollin' to the supple, sublime vocal house of 'Say Something' accompanied by blissful moments like 'Nights Bridge' and the dub-lathered tenderness of 'One Night'. A very strong look, recommended to the lovers!
