Only days after his death the soulful pseudo-mixtape album 'Donuts' slipped out on Stones Throw, but this album, his second solo 'vocal' album for BBE (after the incredible 'Welcome to Detroit' some time back) was only a rumour, and most fans weren't sure whether they'd ever get to hear it. Thankfully the kind folks at BBE knew it was their job to make sure this album got the treatment it deserved and have really pulled out all the stops. Complete with touching liner notes from Dilla collaborator ?uestlove (of the Roots) this is an essential package for anyone with even a remote interest in this most gifted of prducers. We've got the album introduced and kicked off by none other than Busta Rhymes, we've got Common (if you didn't already know Dilla produced his unmatched pop-hop hit 'The Light'), Pharaoahe Monch, Madlib, D'Angelo, J.Rocc, Dwele, Black Thought and more and somehow all of them manage to turn in sterling efforts. Dilla's beats are as fresh as they've ever been too; he nudges towards moog-led Kraut sounds on the tough-as-old-boots 'E=MC2' and 'Over the Breaks', flirts with Motown soul on 'So Far to Go' and 'Baby' and masters minimal street-sounds with 'Jungle Love'.
