Best known for his production on Joey Bada$$'s 'Summer Knights' album, the Sacramento-raised, NYC-based beat maker indulges his taste for D&B and cinematic dynamics on 'Alternate / Endings', running rugged riddims and spacious, highly visual sound design with a cool, nimble hand. It's intirguing to hear an American producer execute such a quintessentially British sound with such authenticity, finding that fine balance of atmospheric darkness and rugged, rolling riddims without tipping over into radged, vein-popping aggression The beats are lean, sharp and rugged, harking back to classic No U Turn and Source Direct, whilst the diffuse, textured electronic touches owe more to the illusive, nostalgic visions of Burial, Lee Gamble or even Mordant Music than anything else we can think of, but there's also a dope, futuristic hip hop freshness and cinematic quality comparable with Oneohtrix Point Never that really identifies this as an American production.
