Geordie troupe Maximo Park have been worrying teenagers with threats of darkened flamboyance ever since their first much lauded 7"s, but to many people they will forever be known as the band that made Warp Records 'go indie'. They are never going to be the most credible band in the world but they stomp through quasi-electro bumpers like 'The Kids Are Sick Again' with so much conviction that you can almost forgive frontman Paul Smith's accented moans. The album is coherent and well measured, and being impeccably produced by occasional Yeah Yeah Yeahs man Nick Launay it sounds huge.
