Absolutely sublime second release for Robin Isan's perfectly fomed Arable imprint, the second offering from the collective experiences of Carim Clasmann and Galia Durant otherwise known as Psapp. This is charming, uplifting music of the most inspired kind coming to us from a Kings Cross based pair of happy anoraks whose mutual obsession with odd noises and heart-prodding pop has resulted in a sound that slips between genres like an excited snake in a margarine tub. Noise fanatic and self-confessed philistine Carim , a veteran engineer and producer whose talents have taken him all over Europe working with the likes of Einsturzende Neubauten met with Casio enthusiast Galia; and their shared love of nonsense and clicks soldered them together for good. Yes. Sampling anything they could lay their greasy hands on, the pair pinched sound from snowy carparks, cats, bike sheds, sitting rooms, fathers and cookery, and nestled themselves away using binary to stitch and snip their analogue finds. The results are an unlikely mix of heartfelt songs and surpising bursts of noise. Psapp has distilled this couple's talents - Carim's production prowess, and Galia's penchant for warm hooks and quirky world musings. "About Fun" is a cat samba about spending the day in a feline way, combining Splodge-the-cat's life commentry with wedges of cut up guitar, violin, kalimba and, of course, some wood. "Velvet Pony"is inspired by Athena fantasy prints and Carim's fluey delerium, a whimsical journey through multiple found sounds all held together with clipped and tinny casio beats and Galia's fairy-like vocal. "Feel the Fur" comes complete with bubbling basslines that twitch underneath twinkling rhodes and crisp packets while bath toys and beads comprise the rhythm section. To finish things off in style, the remix of "About Fun" is one of the best tracks Isan have produced in years - a simply majestic reduced analogue lullaby that's as memorably classic as all those early 7"s of theirs that we fell in love with all those years ago. Just try and get it out of your head after playing it just once and you'll know exactly what we mean. Awesome.
