Description

The classic soundtrack featuring Afrika Bambaataa, Grandmaster Melle Mel and Arthur Baker -- available for the very first time on 180 gram vinyl.

The major motion picture Beat Street takes place in South Bronx, NY and was the first film to expose the hip hop culture to a huge audience not just in the states, but across the globe. Produced by the legendary Harry Belafonte, Beat Street helped jumpstart the rap, breakdance and freestyle movement worldwide. Furthering the message, the companion soundtrack also helped break the careers of many of its artists wincluding early exposure on rap and hip hop pioneers like Afrika Bambaataa, Grandmaster Melle Mel and Arthur Baker.

Go back to the early 80's as breakdancing was a way of entertainment and creatively dueling with rival hip hoppers as battles and early rap and fresstyle music became even more instrumental in the popular radio and retail outlets. It was the power of Beat Street and its amazing soundtrack LP that helped carry the message further, and today Friday Music is very honored to announce the first time 180 gram audiophile vinyl release of this masterwork.

Mastered impeccably by Joe Reagoso (Sugarhill Gang/Chic) from the Atlantic Records tapes, this audiophile album contains all the great tracks you'll remember from the 1984 soundtrack like Frantic Situation by Afrika Bambaataa & The Soul Sonic Force as well as the brilliant lead off track Beat Street Breakdown by old school greats Grandmaster Melle Mel & The Furious Five. There are also some very fine works from the world of jazz and hip hop with Juicy and Eumir Deodato's classic Beat Street Strut, and the powerful Cuban balladry of Rubén Blades on Tu Carino/Carmen's Theme. Welcome back the groundbreakin' and earth shakin' BEAT STREET!
