Description

This limited-edition 12-inch previews six tracks from the fifth and newest in a series of classic Ninja Cuts compilations that have studded Ninja Tune's eighteen years of existence. Like its predecessors, You Don't Know signals where the label has come from and where it's heading. From more than 50 tracks on the upcoming triple-CD set, six tracks were singled out, difficult as it was, and here is the short list transferred onto vinyl:
On the Ghislain Poirier track, "Blazin'," German duo and darlings of the Bpitch Control label, Modeselektor, do what they do best and flip the No Ground Under hit into an amazing dubstep tempo monster. It's the first time on wax for the remix. TTC's touring DJ, Orgasmic, turns the 36 15 TTC album cut, "Travailler," into a dancefloor jammer. Kid Koala serves up "Slew Test 2" off the continuously mixed Your Mom's Favorite DJ, finally making it available as a stand-alone track to help the kids destroy the music business. The Qemists, new to the Ninja roster, slow down their rock-inflected drum and bass with the Coldcut classic, "Atomic Moog," and rework it into a noisy breakbeat stomper. Baltimore bad boys The Death Set are a welcome new Counter Records signing with their future punk stylings and positive attitude, which overflow on this alternate version of "Around the World." Their deubt LP, Worldwide, coming out in April, contains a different version of this song. To close out the sampler, Japan's Susumu Yokota has made The Cinematic Orchestra even chiller with his heartfelt remix of the beautiful "Breathe."

You Don't Know is the perfect example of the breadth of Ninja's family--the sheer ambition and diversity of the music released by Ninja Tune, Big Dada, and Counter. These six cuts are just a primer to what lies ahead; listen and await the future with open ears.
