This time Oracion Records takes you back on a cruise to Califas between the migrant farm working fields of Delano and Bakersfield in the Central Valley. Al Garcia would release three singles on his own Velpa label starting in 1969 from his canton in East Bakersfield, CA. His group The Rhythm Kings, which included his brother Manny on drums, had already been playing together for nearly a decade and would continue playing locally all the way up until 2020!
Love Comes In The Season begins with a wicked guitar, and follows up with the broken heart of Al Garcia, capturing the sound and essence of Shades of Sorrow.
The flip is a Balada en Español, subtly capturing a genre that is rarely spoken of today but encompassed the young hearts of Raza from all across the barrios of Aztlán, Mexico and South America during the 1970’s and 1980’s.
This genre in particular was largely inspired by Venezuelan group Los Terricolas. Filled with a haunting broken heart, Spanish vocals, wicked organs and a unique blend of Psychedelic Rock ballads, Soul and hopeless romance.
Oracion combined their favorite records from Al Garcia y Los Rhythm Kings outfit and put them on one 45 so they can be enjoyed by all. A double dose of some of the finest examples of Chicano Soul, both in English and Spanish ever put to wax!
