Having come out of virtually nowhere last year with his splendid, self-titled debut album of wigged-out, quasi-symphonic synthesiser music, Blanck Mass - aka sometime F*ck Buttons member Benjamin John Power - has found allies in Dan Lopatin and Joel Ford, who are putting this single out through their Software imprint. The emphas is still on whooshing pads and widescreen string sequences, but Power is now embracing 4/4 rhythms too, making for a kind of grandiose, tranced-out analogue techno with more than a whiff of Carl Craig and early Delia & Gavin to it. The vintage drum machine sounds, stately chord sequences and general spirit end-of-level ecstasy persist throughout 'Polymorph'. In a climate where techno is prone to huge understatement, it's nice to hear something as naive, bugged-out and eager to blow minds as this.A White Math 11:17 B Polymorph 10:11
