2022 reissue on purple vinyl - For his fifth LP, Blockhead (aka Tony Simon) takes a trip to 80s and 90s and in particular the public access TV show of the same name. Like many hip hoppers before him, it’s clear that Simon has a burning passion for this era, and it just happens that the late-night VHS styles suit his production style well enough for a coherent semi-concept record to emerge out the other side. Fans of his previous records won’t notice a huge stylistic transformation, but the dusty synthesizers and crude samples are a welcome addition to the Blockhead sound.
