Like so many other greats in the early Latin scene of New York, Bobby Valentin started his long and illustrious career at Fonseca Records. In 1965 Bobby Valentin formed his "Orquesta" and released El Mensajero on Fonseca, and from a band highly competent in blending salsa and jazz, the record held a distinctively mature sound.
