Underground boogie from Carl Marshall – an artist who strongly carries a 70s funk vibe into the 80s – all with a very sharp sound overall! The set was recorded in Knoxville, but feels much more like New York funk of the time – played by a combo with a razor-sharp approach to their basslines, and a nicely lean sense of a groove! Carl Marshall sings, and plays bass, guitar, and keyboards too – but the presence of other musicians is strongly felt throughout – with the kind of warm interplay you'd get from some of the bigger funk artists of the time, but served up with a more down-to-earth indie vibe!
