Following on from the beautifuly constructed debut for the Neo Ouija imprint, Deru returns with this developed second album that takes electronic templates and heads into a much denser environment. "Trying to Remember" sets its tone with gliding layers of midnight sounds and brimming ambience, hugely atmospheric and at times laying itself vulnerable to the fractured percussion that makes an appearance every so often. In truth this could scarcely be called IDM and is much the richer for it - Deru seems to effortlessly set himself apart from many of his contemporaries overly reliant on presets and stylistic terrain trod on countless times before. A rewarding, inspired listen that comes highly recommended.
