Doug Shorts is a Chicago singer-songwriter whose career spans more than four decades. Singing since his early teens, he cut his teeth in local harmony groups including The Visitors, Shades of Brown and The James Clark Band and later released on his own imprint with funk outfit Masterplan Inc. His smooth, polished and deeply soulful voice carries a distinctly Chicago feel, often compared to Curtis Mayfield. His first outing of the year is a timeless slice of step disco and boogie, with 'Be Your Lover' layered with glistening 80s chords and wet claps under his intimate singing style. 'Call Me Back' slows it down to a yearning lament with funky grooves and playfully upset horns.
