2025 reissue - a critically acclaimed 2010 release praised for its energetic mix of highlife, Afro-beat, jazz, and funk, showcasing Taylor's masterful guitar playing and compelling arrangements. The album is noted for its cohesive and well-paced sound, featuring both instrumental tracks and songs with Taylor's vocals in English and Akan, and is considered a strong late-career achievement. Taylor hasn't lost a bit of the spark that made his old records good (and we'll get a chance to compare more directly later this year when Strut releases a compilation of his old songs), and the new songs honor the spirit of that music without rehashing it. There's no need for an artist like Taylor to reinvent himself at this stage-- Love and Death gives us exactly what we want and does it exceedingly well.
