Eric Copeland - Masterbater - 12" Vinyl

Eric Copeland of Black Dice returns to DFA with "Masterbater," 11+ minutes of skronking gyrations and prickly samples. Throughout the track, radio-static intrusions and snatches of glossolalic R&B give the impression that Copeland is stuck inside his car, flicking impatiently from channel to channel while a hailstorm pelts the enclosing steel. But "Masterbater" doesn't devolve into the self-indulgence implied by the title, maintaining propulsion even as conflicting tensions swallow each other whole.
