A wonderful excursion back into homespun late night listening here from Morr Music, this sublime new album from sometime Tomlab, Audiodreg and Staubgold affiliate F.S. Blumm oozes warmth and barely decipherable loveliness from every pore; seemingly sourced from an endless pool of miniature acoustic sounds and campfire crackles. The album features Blumm and a close huddle of musical instruments : xylophone, vibraphone, glockenspiel, drums, guitar, bass, harmonium, accordion, melodica, bontempi and casio keyboards, plus the wonderful footstep sounds created by remarkable French laptop folkstress Colleen, Harald "Sack" Ziegler on a weighty French Horn and, of course, the unforgettable voice of David Grubbs. Apparently these songs were conceived on the road, traveling from Canada to Mexico with Greg Davis and e* rock, breathing in the morning air, diving through the desert, finally arriving in Las Vegas at night. Outside and in between: the horizon, the sky, expanse and distance, the origins of huge gestures and great pop music. Sublime.
