Flock is a new collaborative ensemble featuring five of London’s most forward-thinking and groundbreaking musicians, including percussionist, gyil player, producer Bex Burch (Vula Viel), drummer and tabla virtuoso Sarathy Korwar, synth wiz Dan “Danalogue” Leavers (Soccer96, The Comet Is Coming), pianist Al MacSween (Maisha) and bass clarinetist, flautist, and soprano saxophonist Tamar Osborn (Collocutor).
Still very much at the height of the pandemic in August of 2020, these phenomenal musicians came together in-person following a Boiler Room, Total Refreshment Centre, and Night Dreamer co-present streamed session during lockdown (some for the first time ever in-person) at the London studio, The Fish Factory. With a focus on breathing and listening to each other, the group recorded a fully-improvised session based on text scores Burch put together. Throughout the recording, each track takes on a life of it’s own, from hypnotic rhythmic grooves and more frenetic explorations, to cinematic and pulsating soundscapes.
Overall, this expansive and highly innovative recording captures the brilliance of a group with strong musical chemistry creating something extraordinary together in the moment.
