Great great early work by Horace - featuring that hard-hitting blend of styles that characterized his early recordings with Art Blakey. The tracks are short, done with a great mix of lyricism and hard-edged playing - and the writing is superb, especially on classics like "Doodlin", "The Preacher", "Hippy", and the amazing "To Whom It May Concern" - one of our all-time favorite tunes in the 50s Blue Note catalog! Kenny Dorham is on trumpet and Hank Mobley's on tenor - and the record is both soufully funky, and darkly tinged bop. A real classic! And the Jazz Messengers
