While music fans and music press were busy catching up on the Turkish legacy of 70s rock and psychedelia, a very active and vibrant underground music scene in Istanbul was developing under the radar. Jakuzi are the latest offspring, and their debut record is monumental, not only for this scene but internationally. "Fantezi Muzik"€ is a lo-fi pop masterpiece from a faraway time, place and perhaps and alternate universe. When Kutay Soyocak and Taner Yancel started Jakuzi their only aim was to do the opposite of their previous Punk and Garage projects, and when people with that background start to make a Synth-Pop record you know they'€™re onto something good. Many of the songs are deeply rooted in the rich history of Turkish Pop but Western listeners will also take note of Krautrock, Disco and elements of Joy Division, David Bowie, Roxy Music, The Smiths & Tears for Fears. Jakuzi were able to turn all these influences into something very new, unique and mindbending. This record is a manifest fired up by enthusiasm for music, a manifest for life, for change and for creating a distraction from harsh reality. In this case escapism, and the dire need and necessity to create safe spaces for misfits, at least in your mind. It’s a stunning example of an empowering and vital underground pop spirit! "Fantezi Muzik" is an amazing, magical, wildly emotional and romantic journey that embodies the spirit of individuality and nonconformity.
