German guitarist, bandleader and sonic visionary JJ Whitefield has been shaping the landscape of neo-jazz-kraut and organic groove culture since the early 1990s. With Poets of Rhythm, he laid the foundation for today's retro-soul movement, later expanding into countless solo projects and collaborations that continue to push musical boundaries. He's back here in solo mode with the superb 'Flute Punch which rides on a fluttering flute line that's funky and expressive and underpinned by raw drum work. 'Comin' At Ya (Umberto Echo dub mix)' slows right down and couches you in fleshy and cubby low ends with raw hits cutting through and wallowing melodies drifting your mind into another realm.
