Adding to the sonic signature mapped out on last year's `Reset The Warehouse' LP, Hefty main-man John Hughes takes his sound into darker, more cavernous spaces on `The Black Monk EP'. The dusty breaks are still the backbone, but samples have been mutated and acidic synthesizers pulse with a murderous intention. This is an innovative take on the Chicago sound, fusing together the post-rock of Tortoise, free jazz and house music with the greatest of ease. Short, but very sweet indeed.
