Laidback funk from a group with a very unique sound – one that comes from small combo instrumentation, but which somehow seems to have a larger cinematic vibe – this great sense of tone and timing that makes the spare sounds on the album resonate with a really great sort of vibe! The drums and basslines are wicked – and most tunes have sweet keyboards used in just the right way – not conventional funk that's aping older American soul from the 60s and 70s, but a more future-forward style that also carries just a slight inspiration from soundtrack and sound library modes too – but all at a level that's more conventional, and not retro-styled at all.
