Lexiglass began as a live backing band to many of the key MCs and singers in the fervent Uptown NYC scene. They soon delved into instrumental mode, drawn to the under-appreciated gems on The Love Movement, Tribe's last masterpiece. With their aligned backgrounds in both hip hop and avant garde jazz, Alexis Marcelo (Yusef Lateef, Malcolm Mooney, DJ Spinna) and Will Glass (the Glass Breaks series, Lonnie Holley, Dirty Projectors) found ample room for exploration in these jams, and a template for a whole new project: the Cubetazo Tape Series.
