Sam & The Soul Machine's Po'k Bones & Rice brings to light the legendary group thought of as the missing link between The Meters and the Neville Brothers. This reissue contains material recorded at Cosimo Matassa's legendary Camp Street studio in 1969, featuring group members Gary Brown on sax and Sam Henry on keyboards, with guest appearances by the likes of the Meters' "Zigaboo" Modeliste. This album is augmented by early 70s tracks by Sam Henry as a soloist, whose combination of the funky and the svelte is no less than Allen Toussaint-esque (really). This Soul Machine album was thought to have been suppressed by the Alain Toussaint / Marshall Seahorn axis as too competitive to the music they controlled, and it features extraordinary compositional entities, breakbeats, and samples of critical value to DJs.A1 Sam & The Soul Machine - Wanted Alive A2 Sam & The Soul Machine - Meditation A3 Sam & The Soul Machine - Thesis A4 Sam & The Soul Machine - Slow Motion A5 Sam & The Soul Machine - Gospel Bird A6 Sam & The Soul Machine - Beautiful Morning B1 Sam & The Soul Machine - Mercy-D B2 Sam & The Soul Machine - Stand B3 Sam & The Soul Machine - T-Time B4 Sam & The Soul Machine - Po'k (Poke) Bones & Rice B5 Sam Henry (2) - Gon' Get'cha Girl B6 Sam Henry (2) - Tomorrow, Today
