"Skallander is the collaboration of ex-pat Wellington jazz/experimental musician Matthew Mitchell (who now resides in Hungary) and Producer/Musician Bevan Smith (best known for his work as Aspen, Signer and Patio - his collaboration with Jet Jaguar's Michael Upton). "The Camels" is an album comprised of equal parts smooth, downbeat electronica as it is shoegazing indie pop - with just enough weirdness thrown in to keep things interesting and to keep you going back for repeated listenings. Skallander is a truly complimentary pairing - Smith's soft indie rock vocals are smoothed by Mitchell's funky wah-wah guitar and vice versa, and "The Camels" defies being catergorised into any one genre. This can only be a good thing for the listener. This is a superbly classy album and possibly one of Loop Recordings best releases thusfar. Recommended.
