limited edition version - For many in the late ‘90s, the Crystal Method was a gateway duo into harder electronic music. Along with U.K. contemporaries like the Prodigy, Fatboy Slim and the Chemical Brothers, L.A.-based the Crystal Method helped to proliferate the big beat genre in all its unsubtle glory. Their music was easily identifiable—heavy synthesized loops, steadily building layers, aggressive breakbeats, catchy vocal samples from all manner of sources and percussion as forceful as drums struck by the hammer of Thor—the pair of one-time Las Vegas DJs Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland staked their claim at the forefront of the big beat trend that laid the groundwork for the eventual immersion of electronic music into popular consciousness. The reverberations of their big beats on debut album Vegas still resonate 20 years later.
