The Wax Preachers are a horn-driven instrumental funk powerhouse from London, channelling the raw energy of vintage funk and roots music. Blending breakbeats, soul, and afrobeat, they honour tradition with analogue recording and DIY production. With two sold-out 45s on Detroit's Funk Night Records and a reputation for explosive live shows, they bring pure dancefloor fire again here. Up first is the fast-paced opener, 'Aldgate East ', which is a 60s leaning funk sound that is raw, powered by horns and big drums and very much like the soundtrack to a spy thriller TV series. 'Gamma Ray' slows it down on the flip with a percolating rhythm and bold bras notes offset by funky drums and languid rhythms.
