There are certain albums that just grasp you immediately and make their persona known right off the bat. Bill & Isiah is one of those, with highlight song “89′ Cadillacs” providing a scorcher early on, injecting a healthy dosage of nostalgia in its sound and style. Then, songs like “You Know I Like It” extend the retro feel even further, with funky, colorful samples and expansive sonics. “Sentimental” showcases a pop sensibility from the duo, while “Commentate” shows that they can go bar-for-bar with the rest of them as lyricists. Despite the record’s inherent versatility, it never feels patched together in any way, instead it is a cohesive listen from front-to-back with connecting themes that make it easy to just hit play and let the music take you away until track 11. It’s a solid outing that finds the two in top form, and it remains captivating from start to finish.
