Being re-released shortly after 6ix9ine’s successful debut mixtape DAY69, Day69: Graduation Day consisted of the original 11 tracks featured on his debut mixtape, but included a highly anticipated track titled “GOTTI” in which Tekashi switched his sound from his signature scream-rap style to a more melodic and auto-tuned sound.` The re-release of the project under a new name and cover might be due to the controversy surrounding the cover art for the original DAY69 album.
Known as Tekashi 6ix9ine, simply 6ix9ine, and several alternate stylizations thereof, Daniel Hernandez is a rapper with a hyper-aggressive, full-throated approach to delivering oft-violent rhymes. A native of Brooklyn's Bushwick neighborhood, the Scumgang member developed a following on Soundcloud and made his commercial breakthrough in 2017, after he landed a recording deal through Elliott Grange that facilitated distribution via Universal. Just after Hernandez reportedly pled guilty to three felony counts of using a child in a sexual performance, "GUMMO," his first widely distributed single, entered the Billboard Hot 100 and eventually peaked at number 12. Follow-up "KOODA" arrived at the end of the year, at which point Hernandez had also recorded with the likes of Yung Beef, Trippie Redd, and Mo Dollaz.
