Washington was born in Bamberg, South Carolina, and raised in Harlem, New York. In 1956, after recording with a couple of girl groups she signed to Donald Shaw's Neptune Records as a solo soul performer. We are happy to present our two favorite sides from this early era. 'Move On' Is a gritty Rock N Roll R&B floor filler thats been a tried and tested spin for me at 'Soulsville' R&B Night in Edinburgh. With its car racing lyrics its more a rockabilly aesthetic it still treads into soul. It has become a crowd favorite at my regular gigs. 'Medicine Man' is another smash with sparse moody instrumentation and back street sleazy ive, it just hits the spot, less is indeed more. Played on the R&B and Popcorn dance floors and is the perfect warm up or warm down to any good night.
