It’s been 23 years since disco legends Chic last released an album. But now that band mastermind Nile Rodgers has been busy with songs like Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky,” the band has inked a new deal with Warner Bros., and they’re planning to release a new single in June. Today, they dropped their new single “I’ll Be There,” explaining that they chose today to drop it because it’s the vernal equinox. The song, made in collaboration with house duo the Martinez Brothers, is an expertly funky glide, and it sounds almost exactly like something the group might’ve knocked out in 1978. Given the cyclical nature of things, that also means it sounds absolutely current right now.
