Choncey Langford is a unique character. He is a boisterous, funloving chap who secretes music and art continually. If you've ever attended a show he was at, chances are you were aware of him. He seems to have a rare talent for lightening the mood in many a venue with a combination of goofball antics, good-natured heckling and social graces. He says he's never considered himself an electronic musician, but more of an indie-rock kid making electronic music. We find that hard to swallow, since over the last 4 years his music making has been primarily computer-based, and the styles and techniques he's employed have always been firmly planted at the cutting edge of the electronic music universe, offering up distinctly different flavors than that of the indietronica you often hear from shoegazer kids with a guitar and a laptop. It's equally surprising that someone making such sophisticated and nuanced club music could spend more time listening to records by The Ex, Long Fin Killie, The Fall and This Heat than he does Autechre or Aphex Twin. Choncey continually has his eyes and ears open to art and music of the past and present, locally and globally, and his omnivorous approach often yields rare and satisfying blends of influences and elements. Also an accomplished painter, his work has been featured in a number of solo and group shows in Seattle and LA. Aside from his solo work under his own name, Choncey Langford has performed and produced as Thee Outfit, and as half of the live/electronic duo The Matic. Prior to relocating from Seattle to LA in 2004, he was a member of two perevious Woodson Lateral bands- weilding the laptop in Lamplighter, and as a guitarist in the all-improv post-rock trio Recidivist.
