Having in the past supported the likes of Roy Ayers, Fred Wesley, Gil Scott Heron, Don Blackman and James Brown (playing bass in the funk band the Big Cheese Allstars), it`s no wonder that 6 foot 8" Englishman Charlie Tate's music sounds the way it does. A move to Oakland, California, in Oct `02, the purchase of copious amounts of second hand jazz and COLOSSUS was born! For the lead single, "The Tribute" (as heard on Mark Farina's `Mushroom Jazz 5') Colossus gets down and funky with Om favorite Capitol A. The bay's own DJ Zeph rocks the remix. On the flip, long time pal Hylton Smythe (AKA Roots Manuva) keeps his mind fresh on "Thrupenny Bits" and Om's own resident afrobeat/dub killa J Boogie does it up on the remix. Nuff said."
