"AFRICAN FUNK EXPERIMENTALS" collects work from this Cameroon native from 1975 to 1982, showcasing the funkier end of his work, including early music produced by Frenchman SLIM PEZIN. One of the coolest volumes so far in this excellent series – filled with upbeat groovers that are far more catchy than they are experimental. Most of the work has a vibe that feels like underground American club mixing with some of the hipper styles coming out of west Africa as the 70s moved on. The package brings together material from four different albums – all in a nicely lean presentation that just focuses on the sound in the grooves – the lively instrumental interplay that supports the vocals of Cameroon singer Ekambi Brillant.
