After her self-described "least personal" 2023 album Higher Than Heaven, Ellie Goulding flips the script once again, dipping back into her introspective side for I Know Too Much. Relationship drama and complicated emotions wash over this brisk set, while also providing sonic touchstones for fans of every era. There are beat-forward dance anthems ("Nobody Dances," "Ravers") and pastoral tenderness ("Always Think of You," "Misremember You"), as well as heartbreak fodder ("Black Prada Dress"), and the sparks of new love ("4 Seasons"), carrying Goulding from her breakthrough Lights days up through the 2020s. The variety of styles makes for an exciting, quick listen, especially when Goulding steps away from the mainstream pop/festival EDM lane that has yielded her so many hits over the years, like on the urgent, guitar-driven gem "For Your Entertainment" and the acoustic kiss-off "Loser."
