Description

An experimental electronic dance album from GREG FOX (LITURGY, TEETH MOUNTAIN, DAN DEACON ENSEMBLE, et al.). "Greg made One Thing in 2010 amongst myriad distractions. He was touring a lot. His house had been broken into and a lot of his equipment was stolen. He was, as he still is now, reading the I Ching and studying the Taoist tradition, eating Vietnamese pho at a little place on Hester and Chrystie called Cong Ly, and loving his girlfriend. He was making music for video games, one of which, Nidhogg, won an award for Best Soundtrack at the 2011 Independent Games Festival. (Some tracks he originally composed for video games are on One Thing.) Despite this disordered order, Greg made One Thing, and he's proud of how different it sounds from his other work. It was created on instruments made for dance music, which he learned to use while working at a music store way back in 2004, and he confesses that sometimes it might be just a teeny bit dance-able. It mixes a sprinkling of pop--is that a Beyonce sample?--with a good amount of weirdo rave. One song has a sample that says something like `Gimme your butt,' but in Spanish. Greg Fox's foray into experimental dance music is a slightly unexpected deviation from his oeuvre, but it's smart and spare--two tracks on each song, tops. The music uses its pace effectively and efficiently; it's feng shui without shifting the furniture. The songs are positive, and frequently beautiful, and very fun. This is diversion from a difficult but positive moment in the life of a musician who is known to be fairly serious, and it's nice to see Greg kick back and relax."--Ari Spool. Limited edition pressing on two-color vinyl.
