Gold Panda heralds his DJ-Kicks mix with the smoky, bleary-eyed and chime-heavy house cut 'An Iceberg Hurled Northward Through Clouds', which sounds like a bud-assisted hook-up between Four Tet, Pantha Du Prince, Nathan Fake and early Hot Chip. The stripped-down 'Through Clouds' version is conceived more as a DJ tool, and you even get a short stem track isolating the kalimba tones that made the original fly. Of less contextual and more immediate interest are the two remixes from Not Not Fun's (latterly Domino's) foremost dub psych twosome, Peaking Lights. They really deliver the goods across both their vocal and dub versions, cultivating a freeform but well-rehearsed sound which, like their celebrated 936 LP, is at once dance-focussed and out-of-time trippy. Well good.
