Description

The original soundtrack of Star Wars: Episode VI – The Return of the Jedi released by Sony Classical as a limited, gold-colored vinyl edition. The original soundtrack by the legendary five-time Oscar®-winning composer, John Williams, features music restored from the original LP master. All audio was transferred using the highest resolution (up to 192kHz/24bit) and pressed with heavy 180g vinyl. Faithfully replicating the original cover art, the single LP features a gold vinyl disc making this a unique collector’s item, and includes the original four-page photo insert.

Return of the Jedi's film score receives generally high praise, some even ranking it over the brilliant Williams effort for The Empire Strikes Back. Jedi is viewed as the most complex of the three, deftly weaving themes from the earlier films into the colorful musical fabric with several new ones. The new material includes the playful theme for the Ewoks, a cute enough creation in its zany way, but perhaps not as effective and appropriate as it might have been. The cue, "Ewok Celebration," for example, is colorful and will appeal to children, but will likely come across as a bit silly for most adult listeners. The deliciously sinister choral music depicting the Emperor, however, is brilliantly atmospheric, Williams deftly capturing the evil and menace of this new Vader-like character. There is also a lovely new theme for Luke and Leia, heard to wonderful effect in the cue "Brother and Sister." A few weak spots aside, the score is quite effective: "The Pit of Carkoon" and "Sail Barge Assault" are colorful and exciting, as are the three segments dealing with the Battle of Endor. "The Victory Celebration," the closing cue, is colorful and joyous and the end title music contains an effective hodgepodge of the score's themes and colorful moods.
