The '‘Giant 12” label here is both appealing and deceiving, a product perhaps of lax, rushed urgency and necessity rather than of deliberate obfuscation. Regardless, as the Discogs comments reveal, the genealogy and proper identification of these tracks is… convoluted to say the least. What we can say for sure is that each represents late ‘80’s / early ‘90’s dance music at its best, and frequently most uninhibited. The A-side half, pulled from Frank Toson’s (Flightt, KC Flightt, etc.) 12” release on the New Jersey-based TMT Records, is sleek machine groove, with ‘My Thing’ whirling James Brown’s pitch-shifted vocal over the same Liquid-Liquid-esque percussion which accompanies ‘Jazzy Thing’ before it. The B-side is eternal carnal dance knowledge, its amalgam of Hateful Head Helen, Sweet Pussy Pauline, and A Bitch Named Johanna’s 'I’m A Bitch’ proving it a D.C. cross-cultural nightlife classic, with Steve Poindexter’s Casio drum machine-sparked all-time Chicago classic closing things off thematically.
