The Dragon are back in business in 2018, if new double-A side single Sway Daisy/Best Friends is anything to go by. On Sway… Nagano’s intoxicating and unmistakable honey-coated drawl graces the kind of haunting, minimalist electro-ballad that the band do so very well. A piece of the heart cracks with each thrash of the gated drums. The vocal arrangement, holding back on the harmonies as ever, is as sparse as a Scandinavian winter landscape. If Sway Daisy is gorgeously gloomy, then Best Friends is a more life-affirming jaunt down memory lane...sort of. There’s still a tinge of melancholy as Yukimi reminisces on the ebb-and-flow of adolescent friendships. Oh well, Best Friends now joins the pantheon of ingenious happy-sounding sad songs. Quite appropriate considering the Fleetwood Mac-esque flavour.
