Instantly conjuring up images of serene landscapes from a bird's eye view through this mantra on the intro track, M83's latest album witnesses the French duo's excursion into the depths of synth-gaze""and what a wonderful journey it is. Providing the electronic scene with a fresh sound that is extremely difficult to compare to (enough My Bloody Valentine comparisons already!), Nicolas Fromageau and Anthony Gonzalez majestically merge the nervous droning of shoe gaze with massive keyboard/synth chords, creating a sonic experience that is subtly religious. The colossal organ of "In Church" obviously leads to this conclusion, but the entire album is simply gorgeous in an organic yet profound way that is rarely heard in electronic albums today. Although this album was released overseas a year ago, Dead Cities, Red Seas, and Lost Ghosts is timeless, quickly establishing Gooom as the best electronic label coming out of France.
