"Matmos' eigth album proper takes telekinesis and ESP as fertile basis for its conceptual framework. Accompanied by a coterie of guests and test subjects ("percipients") including John Weise, Leslie Winer, Keith Fullerton Whitman, Dan Deacon, Clodagh Simonds, they deliver a typically detailed, colourfully dramatic and cerebral meditation on dance music, thought transfer and electronic music ranking among their most ambitious albums to date. For the past 4 years they've been conducting parapsychological experiments based upon the classic Ganzfield ("total field") experiment using adapted methods; test subjects were placed in sensory deprivation - hemisphered ping pong balls over the eyes, headphones playing white noise - while Drew Daniel attempted to transmit "the concept of the new Matmos record" directly into their minds during sessions at Oxford Uni and in their Baltimore base. The results were videotaped and then transcribed into melodic phrases and sampled as dialogue - triangles pop up a lot - which crops up across each track, themselves a diverse array of futurist pop sound design dissolving R&B, Funky, techno and electro acoustics in ominous and often delirious shapes and spaces.
