Ersatz II' is the 2nd LP collaboration between former Cluster and Harmonia component, Dieter Moebius and his sound artist/painter pal in the Forst/Weser Uplands collective, Karl Renziehausen. Originally released in 1992, two years post their first 'Ersatz' collaboration, it's defined by a surreal, pop-friendly charm, while still brimming with the creative quirks associated with Dieter's best work. There's a strong rhythmic backbone running through the album, almost dance-ably so, but the melodies and harmonies are, you might say, not so conventional, and laced with that queered, artsy German feel for tone and timbre. We're particularly feeling the odd MIDI funk of 'Slam Dunk' and the crystallised combination of screwed rhythms and mystic aquatic dissonance on 'Whamming Pad', or equally 'Suspiria's fluffy cyber-ambience, which could very easily be considered a precursor to James Ferraro's end-of-year-chart-topping 'Farside Virtual'. Both LP and CD include sleevenotes by Asmus Tietchens.A-1 Osmosis 6:18 A-2 Animotion 5:41 A-3 Mallot Man 5:33 A-4 Miller Time 4:47 A-5 Slam Dunk 2:05 A-6 Vox Picker 2:45 B-1 Whamming Pad 3:35 B-2 Miles Away 8:00 B-3 Suspiria 6:05 B-4 Notre Dame 6:28 B-5 Lost Temple 3:40
