Leaf do the right thing and at last make these awesome tracks available on vinyl for the first time - albeit kept to a limited pressing. "Ultimatum" features the fabulous Jan Jelinek remix of "Maiz" and Deathprod's dense reworking of "Ulysses". It also features new tracks "Ultimatum" and "Una" - neither of which have been previously available on vinyl. Jelinek's work on "Maiz" is perhaps the standout moment on the recent "Utopia" cd - his deep jazz crackle and pregnant double-basslines working wonders with Murcof's own take on sublime scene-setting, creating a blissed-out weave of smokey textures and moving harmonies, awesome stuff. Deathprod's re-structuring of "Utopia", meanwhile, burdens the cinemascopic tones of the original with a larger-than-life drift of breathless drones and stretches of heavy, ethereal spaces that are typical of his hugely acclaimed and scarce work for Rune Grammafon. As for the two new tracks, both "Una" and "Ultimatum" whet the appetite for Murcof's hugely anticipated new material - masterful, evocative, moving music that we can't wait to hear more of. Until then - enjoy another standout release from one of the most intriguing artists of recent times. Limited to 1000 copies only.
