Aftermath' is arguably the best known Nightmares On Wax cut that, when released in October 1990, became an integral part of Sheffield's bleep techno movement. The track landed into the Top 40 entirely on club play. This latest release provides an extension to the 'Deep Down' edition, with Ric and Max doingtheir bendy, extended remix thing with this bona fide Warp classic. The 24 year old bleep techno template is extruded thru their modular arsenal to resemble a strange older version of itself, the vocal pitched down to a pensioners ramble and all the energy of the breaks and bass diffused into snaking, whirring polyrhythms. On the flip, the Electric Jazz Version is ace, dicing up sprung drums, darting bass motifs and feathered vocal flits to sound some menagerie of psychotropically-enhanced, flying chimeras performing an ancient ritual involving multi-dimensional time signature switches.
