Description

Casablanca, an ancient port city in northern Morocco, is known for beaches, hashish and blue skies. But no, the Casa Voyager crew, named after the city's main train station, don't make disco or sunny house. Instead, they specialise in weirdo electro and techno that freaks out European afterhours, snapped up by vinyl buyers as soon as each release hits stores. The Anticlimax, the label's third vinyl release, presents more oddball jams from founder OCB, who's also released music as DJ Booth. Across its five tracks, acid mixes with electro and broken beats for a heady sound that's equal parts funk and feeling.

It's hard to beat the A1, "Aquaquest Pt.2 (The Anticlimax)." An emotional electro cut laced with a dreamy 303, it's more afterhours than peak-time, humming with the melancholy of some forgotten B12 tune. More positive moods sit on the B-side with "Inigo's Kick" and " Kraftrack," which channel electro funk in their hyperactive basslines. Both are high-energy bombs that also hint at early IDM, with busy sound design and a free-flowing pace. Like the rest of The Anticlimax, this is high-end dance music from an exciting label from outside the scene's central hubs. With a fourth great EP on the way before the end of the year, techno fans might soon associate Casablanca with more than beaches, sunshine and weed.
