The line-up's now bolstered by the programming skills of Adam Sparkles, and extra Bass and Keys from Robin van der Kaa, and it really shows. There's now a taut, lean dancefloor muscularity where it's required, and a much richer electronic element at once curbing their indie-pop inclinations and reflecting their psychedelic intentions. But as they're a band there's still that looseness and a human ebb-and-flow to 'Psychic Welfare', as the album expands and contracts between moments of Television-esque playful post-punk like 'Hot Bubblegum', and more chewy, groovesome downtown instrumentals like 'Mu', the killer Kraut-disco of 'Salamander' and the lithe but plush 'Human Hair Disco'.
